TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dr. Behshad Ahkami utilizes numerous types of dental implants in Wayne to meet the needs of each individual patient. During your initial consultation, Dr. Ahkami will discuss the type of dental implants to use that will best treat your specific circumstance prior to beginning the dental implant procedure.
Dr. Behshad Ahkami has the ability to replace missing teeth in a fraction of the time with the use of mini-dental implants. Mini implants are similar to conventional dental implants however the entire process can be completed in just one office visit. Mini implants help stabilize dentures for patients that are not suitable for other forms of dental implants.
MULTI-TOOTH DENTAL IMPLANTS
Multi-tooth dental implants are used when more than one tooth is missing. The implants serve as a foundation for dentures or dental bridges, when a patient is missing multiple teeth in the same area of the mouth.
The best candidates for multi-tooth dental implant treatment are patients with multiple missing teeth in the same location of the mouth. Prior to any oral surgery, the patient must be in great health and not have any medical issues that would prevent the oral surgery from proceeding.
Multi-tooth dental implants are usually considered the most cost-effective implants as opposed to single tooth dental implant treatments.
SINGLE TOOTH DENTAL IMPLANTS
There are two common treatment options for a single missing tooth, a tooth supported bridge and a dental implant supporting a crown. A single-tooth dental implant describes the placement of a dental implant to replace a single missing tooth without affecting the health of the neighboring teeth. A single implant replaces the tooth root which helps preserve the bone so in the long term, a single dental implant is the optimal choice in the replacement of a missing tooth. Single tooth dental implants flawlessly blend in with your natural teeth.
DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE
Dental implants act as tiny anchors to hold the replacement teeth in place, and essentially take place of the natural root. Dr. Ahkami and his team at Glow Dental Spa, will determine what types of dental implants are ideal for your circumstances.
STEP ONE: AN ASSESSMENT BY DR. AHKAMI
Dr. Ahkami must first assess your dental health and determine the best course of treatment for your particular situation prior to beginning the dental implant procedure. Not all patients are great prospects for the dental implant procedure due to gum recession, bone density issues, or other health related matters, so it is important to meet with Dr. Ahkami prior to oral surgery.
STEP TWO: ORAL SURGERY TO POSITION THE DENTAL IMPLANTS
The following step in the dental implant procedure is the oral surgery. This step includes positioning of the dental implants into the bone in the area of the missing tooth so that the bone can grow and heal around the implant creating an anchor for replacement tooth. After the surgery, a temporary denture, dental bridge, or dental crown is worn while the bone and gums heal completely.
STEP THREE: POST-SURGICAL REHABILITATION
For the first six months following the oral surgery, the dental implants are left untouched so the bone can grow around the implant during the healing process. The jawbone and gum tissue then forms around your dental implant, keeping the dental implant in position just like a normal tooth root. Patients often tell us they do not experience many, if any, disruptions in their daily life.
STEP FOUR: POSITIONING THE DENTAL RESTORATION
Once the dental implant have completely healed and integrated within the jawbone and gum tissue, a long-term dental restoration will then be attached to a post that is secured to the anchor of the dental implant. To effortlessly improve your smile, dental crowns, dental bridges, or dentures will be custom-designed to meet your personal needs.
